This week, Vanderbilt University added the Deluxe Edition of Vanishing Cuba to their Library’s permanent collection. I continue to be honored that more and more prestigious libraries across the country are buying my book. So exciting! Thank you, Vanderbilt.
At its founding in 1873, Vanderbilt University housed its original library in its main building. Today, the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries are fundamental to the university’s goal of advancing scholarship and learning. They collect, preserve and make accessible a wide variety of resources, partner with faculty and students to shape research and encourage the development of informed scholars and engaged citizens.
Campus-wide wireless access opens the libraries’ virtual front door to 3.75 million visitors per year. Reflecting the work of library and university leaders to meet the needs of students, staff, faculty, and community members, these numbers continue to grow.

VANISHING CUBA CHRONICLES – PRINTING IN ITALY
On September 28, 2021, I departed New York for Milan, Italy, to oversee the printing and production of my long-awaited Vanishing Cuba book. I was headed to my printer, Longo AG, in Bolzano, Italy. My man at Longo, Giuseppe, picked me up at the airport, and we began our four-hour journey across Northern Italy. Giuseppe had been working with me for two years on this project, and he knew exactly what I was looking to achieve. After multiple espressos stops along the Autostrade, we arrived at Longo in the late afternoon. The espresso stops were a good indication of what was to come. Non-stop espresso, all day, every day, for the next two weeks!

PLAIN MAGAZINE FEATURES VANISHING CUBA
After 24 trips to Cuba and over tens of thousands of photographs, American photographer Michael Chinnici is releasing his new coffee table book, Vanishing Cuba. Documented in the 348-page large-format book is a collection of arresting visuals that map out the past, present, and future of Cuba, along with emotional stories, fantastic scenery, and lifelong friendships the photographer has made along the way.
Captured in the most endearing and honest light, the book is accompanied by text in both English and Spanish, narrated by Cuban friends through meaningful essays. Through his lens, Chinnici digs deep into the soul of a country, and the results, as you can see from the images below, are breathtaking.
