THE MEANING OF DIASPORA
The term diaspora comes from an ancient Greek word meaning “to scatter about.” And that’s exactly what the people of a diaspora do — they scatter from their homeland to places across the globe, spreading their culture as they go. The Bible refers to the Diaspora of Jews exiled from Israel by the Babylonians.
Located in Miami is the AMERICAN MUSEUM OF THE CUBAN DIASPORA. It is a perfect location for the museum and a wonderful way to celebrate the Cubans who have voluntarily left or been forced to leave Cuba. There are countless success stories of Cubans who now call America their home. Jeff Besos (founder of Amazon), Andy Garcia, Gloria Estefan, Pit Bull, sports figures, real estate developers, celebrities, and many small business owners.
It was my pleasure to donate a copy of the Reserve Edition of my book, Vanishing Cuba, which will be displayed at the museum. We’re discussing a future exhibition that ties into the Cuban Diaspora and will keep everyone posted. Exciting!
