UNIQUE PRINTING TECHNIQUE
The book’s color images are printed using a proprietary 7-color Spectra System to provide the most vibrant colors. The book’s black & white images are printed using a 2-black and 1-grey TriTone System, delivering superior b&w images with breathtaking results. Ultra-fine, dot-less, stochastic printing rounds out this magnificent work of art. Printing in 10 colors is a rarity among photography coffee table books. Thanks to the support of Heidelberg Press, Epple Inks in Germany, and Longo Press in Italy, we created a truly stunning book. Many have said that we “set the bar.”

CURATED IMAGES AND STORYTELLING
Michael has curated his 24 trips to Cuba into a wonderful storytelling photo collection. Each beautifully crafted book is produced with stories in both English and Spanish, with Cuban friends helping guide the narrative with beautiful essays. Michael’s style of photography captures the “Soul of Cuba” in the most authentic, endearing, beautiful, and honest light. His images are so lively; that they jump off the page. His stories are so compelling; that you are transported to Cuba with the turn of every page.

EXCELLENT REFERENCE BOOK
True, the book is a beautiful photographic storytelling journey through the lost-in-time island nation of Cuba. But it’s also filled with many historical references woven into the writings. For this reason, many prestigious University libraries and public libraries across the globe have purchased the book for their permanent collections.

Upon receiving the Reserve Edition of Vanishing Cuba, I was initially delighted by how well it was packed and protected. Further inspection revealed a quality of materials used, rarely seen even in the finest museum book stores. I just love how this book was presented. Once the book was taken out of it’s protective box, the reader is guided through the beauty of Cuba through a comprehensive set of unrivaled images and storytelling. Michael has done an amazing job of allowing the reader to journey with him to this fascinating country through words and images. From the stunning colonial architecture, landscapes and seascapes to it’s warm and resilient people, Vanishing Cuba is undoubtedly a masterpiece, and is a credit to the people of Cuba. Bravo Michael!

This beautifully hand-crafted compilation of images and storytelling is a stunning depiction of an amazing country and its people! I’ve been so lucky to have experienced this unique island and its friendly warm people with Michael Chinnici. Those adventures are truly my favorite travel memories. We’ve stood side by side, photographing the same subject with similar equipment yet his images are always better because of his talent for seeing what others do not. His attention to detail, lighting, composition, equipment use, and technique shows in all of his photos.

The time and effort he put into this project have created more than a photo book. It is a stunning collection of fine art photography and wonderful storytelling that makes me anxious to return to Cuba for my next adventure!

The obvious high print quality of this book is evident when you open to the first page. From the feel and weight of the paper, the intense vivid colors and black & white depth of the images, to its beautifully designed box. Its weight will also surprise you! You’re gonna need a bigger coffee table!

A few years ago I had the honor and pleasure of attending Michael’s photo workshop. We were in Naples, Italy. Although we were in my country, Michael was able to extrapolate a vision of local life that often escaped me. Through his lens, he introduced me to Naples as I had never seen it before. I was in Cuba in 1997 and I can say that Vanishing Cuba made me experience the same effect it had for Naples. It’s incredible.

This is not just a book of photographs: it is a collection of finely selected works of art. Each image tells a story and asks you to pause to consider every detail, every nuance, every stroke of color, every background.

With these images, Michael takes you by the hand to transport you and make you experience the true essence of Cuba, its inhabitants, its villages. You can grasp the Cuban soul!

The technical realization of the volume is also of the highest quality, as well as the accuracy of the packaging and the attention to detail.

If you want to have something at home to proudly show to friends, or even just for the pleasure of your eyes, don’t miss this wonderful edition or you will regret it forever. This work is a real “must-have”. Believe me!

  4. Rocio Montes

This is more than a book, it’s an experience itself. The unboxing process was beautiful and when I saw the book I felt so excited before I even opened it because I could tell I was about to be transported to the true Cuba, the Cuba I know and deeply love with all my heart, I think this is a love story between a man and a country, it’s a love letter to the Cuban people and I had tears in my eyes going over some photos and I could feel my roots thicker than ever. I truly thank Michael for giving the world such a beautiful gift.

  5. Richard Haase

Words truly cannot describe how beautiful this book is. In fact, I now need a nicer home so I can properly display this work of art. What a spectacular job you have done. I am blown away. Congratulations Michael.

Michael Chinnici’s Vanishing Cuba, Reserve Edition, packaged superbly, is a true work of art with its 300 carefully selected images from more than 100,000 photos he’s taken over 24 trips to the island. But it is also what, no doubt, will be THE definitive narrative description of Cubans and their lives reflected in his captions that contain both factual information and fascinating personal interactions and observations. Michael has captured the essence of the spirit of the Cuban people from children to elderly and all ages in between, the once elegant and still magnificent architecture, the lifestyles of ordinary Cubans, and the lush scenery that exists without regard to economy or hardships. The magic of both the artistic photos and the narrative is that both come from intimate interactions possible because of his genuine interest in and love for the island and its people. This special edition not only has the uniquely curated and printed book, but also a clamshell box for protection and three frameable photos which I selected from an assortment from the book. Every element is truly a work of art. This edition showcases Michael’s immense photographic talent, his genuine interest in and love for the warm Cuban people throughout the island, and his skill in conveying his thoughts behind each image (often including the person’s name, their personal interactions, and sometimes the serendipitous circumstances of the moment). I knew that Vanishing Cuba, Reserve Edition, would be special, but it exceeded my every expectation in its professionalism, its warmth, and its tribute to the amazing Cuban people. As I continue to read every caption and study each image, I will marvel that Michael not only understands and loves Cuba and its people; he has capably conveyed those feelings in a most remarkable way, organizing amazing photos by emotions and the essence of the people. Every part of this book has so much to tell, both of the photographer and his love for Cuba. Each image is so touching and beautiful. So well curated and the wonderful printing has enhanced the experience. It’s a treat to photographers and book lovers. Brilliant!

Congratulations Michael for this distinguished book. It’s surely unique.

  8. Sandra Jetton

This book is exquisite. After opening the container and seeing the extraordinary jewel-case presentation box I almost went to get my white gallery gloves before going further. But I quickly became so engrossed in not just the world-class photography but the stories, commentaries and the experiences you shared with your photography subjects – many becoming friends along the way. My husband and I travelled with you to Cuba several years ago, and if any photographer believes he/she can stand side-by-side with a great photographer and shoot the same frame and get the same result, just take a look at this book. The beauty of each image and the stories told within are priceless. Every lover of photography and travel need to own this book. And I cannot recommend the Reserve Edition highly enough. Congratulations again Michael!

  9. Maya Lüfter

I really love this book. When you look at the pictures, you can literally empathize with the places! A fantastic photographer and a wonderful book of great quality! A must-have for every photo, art, booklover. In short, for everyone who likes beautiful things!

  10. Roman

I expected a lot from this book; especially since I know the author and his photography. I was fortunate to be invited by Michael to visit him in Italy where the book was being printed. I spent 4 days at the printer with Michael, so I saw the complete printing and separation process. The quality of the prints off the press was just WOW. I never saw anything like that in my career. I called my print company in Zagreb and I mentioned where the book was being printing. My guy there said to me, “that’s the best place in all of Europe where you can print using this method.” So before I saw the finished book, I knew it was going to be great. I am still fascinated with the quality of this book. I realized that the Reserve Edition was the only option for me, and I chose for myself.

It’s very clear, once you begin to view the images in this impressive book, that Vanishing Cuba will be the standard that all other photography books about Cuba will be judged against. Michael Chinnici has set the bar so high, that few, if any will be able to reach the quality achieved by this publication.

Even if you’ve never been to Cuba before, when you take the time to browse the images in the book, you’re transported to the communities that Michael explored so many times. The stories told, and the images shown, help you to understand what makes Cuba special, and you begin to see why Michael loves it so much.

The Reserve Edition, with its slipcover, help to make this book something to cherish. It’s not a book that you’ll shelve after a quick viewing. It’s one that you’ll be proud to own, and something you’ll showcase in a your home for others to enjoy, for years to come.

Simply put, it’s the best book I’ve ever had the pleasure to own.
